Audio-Technica originates from Shinjuku-ku, Japan and formed in 1962 by Hideo Matsushita. Initially concentrating on phono cartridges but by the 1990s leading the way in microphones and headphones.
Audio-Technica’s first major product was the AT-1 followed by the AT-3mm, a stereo phono cartridge which was just for the Japanese market. A year later they integrated the cartridge with the tone arm. Throughout the 1960s Audio-Technica expanded and continued to develop technology in the improvement of their phonographic technology.
Towards the end of the 60s Audio-Technica began to export worldwide and in 1972 they opened their first base in Ohio, United States followed a year later by importing the VM Phono cartridges to Europe. In the mid 1970s Audio Technica moved into the stereo headphones market with the AT-700 followed by the AT-8 and AT-7. The same year as this award winning series was released they issued a series of microphones; the AT-800. The company continued to break ground with the award winning AT4033. Throughout the decade to come it produced hugely popular products such as the AT895, AT3060 and the AT2020. Audio-Technica also famous has supplied many Olympic events exclusively.
