Numark is one of the more recent brands to emerge being set up in 1971 in Edison, New Jersey by Harry and Robert Katovsky and later acquired by former Stanton sales manager Jack O’Donnell.

Now part of the Inmusic group Numark’s journey as a DJ manufacturer has seen many innovations in the DJ market. Famously, Numark were the first to introduce a sampler to DJ mixers on the DM1775. Other innovations include the first twin CD unit; the CD5020 and the first iOS enabled systems – The iDJ. Numark has had great success in the DJ market both aiming at professionals with high end technology and hobby DJs with huge worldwide sellers such as the Mixtrack and Mixtrack Pro which continue de to sell on mass owing to their price, quality and slicksign layout.

In the 1990s their best success was with innovative DJ mixers such as the DM2002x which introduced kill switches and transform controls.

In 2002 Numark entered the turntable market with the successful TT and TTX series. The TTX USB Deck focussing on the high end DJs, a high torq unit with a digital pitch displayed in a blue bubble at the side of the tone arm. The TT range was also launched for the budget which also included one of the first USB turntables, the TT-100 and currently the TTUSB.

Numark also developed its own range of cartridges and needles such as the Groovetool which became a firm favourite with the domestic market whilst the CS-1 & CC-1 were focussing on the professional DJs with endorsements from the Scratch Perverts and Carl Cox respectively.

Throughout the era of the noughties, Numark dominated the twin CD market. The CDMix 1, CDMix2 and CDMix3 becoming widely used in many nightclubs as a reliable and affordable choice. At this time, Numark also acquired Alesis to form the Inmusic group, a banner which encompasses other brands such as Ion (which is the domestic end of Numark), Alto and Akai which innovate in the music production and PA market.
